Who Is This Girl?

"This Girl" is a sci-fi, period drama, political drama, and detective drama enthusiast. In the real world, she is a veterinary technician who plans to earn her Bachelor's in Veterinary Nursing in the UK (and remain permanently, visas permitting). Future career plans include specialization in emergency/critical care & trauma. (Or dentistry, because my dentistry teacher was/is a saucy minx who likes making me fall in love with unexpected things.)

Favorite Television Shows: The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Call the Midwife, Parade's End, All Star Treks, Sherlock, Babylon 5, Doctor Who, Major Crimes, Sanctuary, Stargate: SG-1, The West Wing, The Closer, Glee, Castle, NCIS, Law & Order: Trial By Jury.

Favorite Actors: Sharon Small (oh, God, Sharon...), Mary McDonnell, Jenny Agutter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Laura Main, Amanda Tapping, Catherine Tate, Elisabeth Sladen, Stephen McGann, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Alex Kingston, Jeff Daniels, Martin Freeman, Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, Emily Mortimer, Nana Visitor, Meryl Streep, Cherry Jones, Patrick Stewart, Nathan Fillion, William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Olivia Munn, etc.

Favorite Books: Pride and Prejudice, Parade's End, Honor Harrington, Heralds of Valdemar, Harry Potter, The Belgariad/Malloreon, The Elenium/Tamuli, The Sunne in Splendour, The Mists of Avalon, Temeraire, Aubrey-Maturin, and others.

Hobbies/Interests: Horseback riding, reading, Internet, writing, history, biology, veterinary medicine, microbiology, surgery, veterinary dentistry, theatre, etc.

Favorite Characters:
Inspector Lynley: Barbara Havers is the love of my life, and I adore her beyond all reason.
Call the Midwife: Sister Bernadette, Sister Julienne, and Dr Turner.
Star Trek: Kira Nerys, Beverly Crusher, Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Jean-Luc Picard, Kathryn Janeway, Tom Paris, Malcolm Reed, Jonathan Archer.
Sherlock: I am John Watson's girl, now and always. (But I adore Sherlock, too. I can has threesome?) Also Mycroft.
Stargate: Janet Fraiser, Samantha Carter, Elizabeth Weir, John Sheppard, Jack O'Neill.
Babylon 5: Susan Ivanova, John Sheridan, Delenn, Jeffrey Sinclair, Catherine Sakai, Elizabeth Lochley.
Doctor Who: RIVER SONG. Eleven, Ten, Donna, Jack, Sarah Jane, Rory, Nine, Amy, Martha, Harriet Jones, Rose...
The Closer/Major Crimes: Sharon Raydor, Brenda Leigh Johnson, Rusty Beck, Andy Flynn, Andrea Hobbs.
The Newsroom: Will McAvoy, Mackenzie McHale, Sloan Sabbith, Don Keefer, Neal Sampat.

So why do you want to move to the UK so badly, anyway? Because the opportunities to study and practice vet nursing at degree level in the United States suck. And by "suck" I mean "do not exist". Also, the UK also has coherent, nation-wide regulation of veterinary nurses, which the US oh so very much does not.

Any questions? Post 'em in the comments!

You share sooo many fandoms with meeee! So glad I added you!! :P
I have to echo an above poster with "you love Eddings tooooooooooooo!!". And you're a Trekkie and West Wing and oh my life is complete :D
I really should post a list of my fandoms on my journal at some point but I have a worrying feeling it would take forever...

I'm enrolled in the army now. They have me stationed in Germany at the moment. This is the first time I've had to officially update stuff. How are things?

Welcome to the official "Listens To Mintcloud Complain About The State Of The World And/Or Gush Over Hot Women or Fictional Characters" list! Prepare for a semi-consistent flood of rants about my lack of progress on my Sci-Fi Big Bang fic, interspersed with almost as frequent spazzes of geekery. Glad to have you aboard! ;)

Heya! Dropping by from the ds9 friending meme; you seemed pretty awesome. :) You're also the third person this week to recommend Honor Harrington, so clearly after graduation I must get my hands on a copy.

Aww, thank you! ;)

Honor Harrington is a BAMF and you must read her. (Although I will warn you that there's, what, sixteen - no, twenty counting the anthologies - novels in the series, and they are all enormous. The good news? You can also download them FREE from Baen's site in whatever form you want (except PDF, boo). Baen is awesome like that.

Also, I absolutely share your grief over Lis Sladen. She was one of a kind, and she will be sorely, sorely missed.

Hmm, I don't know who you are either, but I like you too. I am not such a frequent poster anymore (and a lot of the locked stuff is depression-related, so less fun than the public posts), but hi. Would you like to be acquaintances?

(This link leads to my description of "me." I would add aspiring social worker, current delivery driver, obnoxiously liberal American feminist who is much better at keeping her mouth shut at the right times than she used to be, invisibly disabled, and stably and happily mentally ill to those descriptors, now, to give a more accurate depiction.)

Hi there! I would love to be acquaintances! (I am a bad feminist in that the idea of my boyfriend/husband telling me to "sit down and shut up" turns me the hell on, but I attribute that more to my own slightly kinky side than any failure on the part of my very feminist mother...)

As for posting, I am the world's most erratic poster. I sometimes vanish for months at a time, only to reappear and post five times in one day. So no worries there. ;)

I believe I mentioned I'm a vet tech in training, but I didn't mention that I eventually want my PhD in equine genetics - particularly the problems with the top Thoroughbred racing lines and how we can fix them - so I'm a bit of a medical geek too. :D I also want to work at a top-level referral and emergency animal hospital - humdrum primary practice is not for me!

Anyway, I would like to get to know you! I admit quite a bit of my journal is hopeless squee - mostly about Barbara Havers, and if you don't already know who she is, you will fairly soon, she always seems to crop up in my conversations sooner or later - but occasionally I do come out with things that are actually thought-provoking, and I hope it's worth sticking around for!

Oooh, equine genetics. I almost went to get a PhD in ecology of infectious disease (I burned out on lab work before I got there), so practical applications of biology are very near and dear to my heart. :D

Hi there! I want to do this without sounding creepy, but I don't think I can. But cata_clysmiic just told me about your Ivanova post (ADFSKJL;ADFSKLADFSJ I'M WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME RIGHT NOW AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH IT HURTS ALL OVER), and now I'm flailing all over her on IM about all the things you and I have in common and how awesome you are. All the Treks. WITH KIRA NERYS FIRST. And Inspector Lynley! I mean, I haven't seen a lot, but Lynley/Havers forever holy God. And Sanctuary and Glee and Downton Abbey and Castle and NCIS and Criminal Intent and adlkjdkljafdsadlf. Friends?

OMG, my dear, you had me at "Lynley/Havers forever holy God." Although any of the rest would have earned you a ticket to friend-dom anyway. :D Which twitter-person are you??

YES. KIRA. I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE. And Downton! And ALL THE OTHER THINGS!!! I would LOVE to have you on my flist. :D

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH LOVE IN THE WORLD FOR IVANOVA EVER. AND YOU MUST WATCH LYNLEY/HAVERS, BECAUSE OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD.

...and now I'm flailing all over her on IM about all the things you and I have in common and how awesome you are.

Oh my goodness. I don't think "flattered" quite covers just how... well... flattered I am about this. :D

No worries, I am not anti J/D - they are very sweet together and pretty much the ultimate power couple! :D I can see the love, for sure, but I guess since I got into B5 as a moody teen I personally lean towards the doomed romances and unrequited love ships more than the actual happy couples!

Oaky, I'm sucking it up and finally posting and friending you. Thank you for your marvelous Lynley/Havers fic. After falling in love with the series, I found your fic, which made me love it all the more. And the more I love it, the more I'm happily hunting down Sharon Small's other work (she's amazing in Glasgow Kiss and I can see why, as attractive as she is in that series, the producers hired her to play Havers.

And the beauty of Lynley and Havers is that I'm writing again! Yes, the husband is point out I have a novel I need to prep for a conference this summer, but the words are coming quickly, so I'm not complaining. Now, if I could just get a single piece done and not just scenes all over the place, I could post something.

...still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I'm apparently now a bit of a Lynley/Havers celebrity, tbh. :D

Thank you so much for your kind words! My fic is basically an outpouring of fannish devotion that's lasted far longer than I ever expected a fandom obsession to last, and I blame it entirely on Sharon Small and her phenomenal Barbara Havers. I don't think I've ever seen a character as fully real or three-dimensional as Barbara, and I doubt I ever will again. She's just... she's just perfect.

I'm so glad you're writing again! It's a small fandom, to be sure, but I've gotten so much love from unexpected sources writing for these two, and I hope you have the same experience. And All the Stars Burned Bright - aka The Star Trek AU Of Doom - started out as fic fragments that eventually knit themselves into an actual plot, so don't be afraid of them! :D

Haha, yes, Glasgow Kiss is so very amazing, I just can't even. I almost cried when I was able to get my hands on that show.

Anyway, welcome to the madhouse, and I hope you enjoy your stay. :D
